Amelia : Hello! We’re back with Day 5 of our Winning Week Challenge. I’m Amelia.
Duayne : And I’m Duayne.
Today is probably the simplest day of our Winning Week Challenge. And yet, it’s the one that many builders struggle to do.
Amelia : However, we see that when builders DO regularly do this, then it’s amazing what it does to help them improve, build momentum, and stay motivated to keep taking action towards a better business and lifestyle.
Duayne : Being a builder and owning your own business can be pretty lonely. It can feel competitive out there. But you can’t talk to other builders about what challenges you’re experiencing, or the successes and wins you’re having, because maybe they’ll use them against you, and you’ll lose work as a result.
Amelia : The loneliness can mean that you don’t get the help to improve things when you need it. And it can mean that you don’t actually celebrate the goals you achieve and successes you have.
Duayne : And that can mean that you just fall into a comfortable rut in your business, doing things the way you’ve always done them, even though they may not be going the way you’d like, or creating the best results.
Amelia : And this can mean it’s also really hard to build momentum around the stuff you’d like to put into action - like this Winning Week Challenge and the daily actions we’ve been taking you through.
Duayne : So, today, for Day 5 of your Winning Week Challenge, we want you to celebrate your wins for the week.
Inside our group coaching program ELEVATE, we get our builder members to do this, and many members tell us it’s one of their favourite things to do, and to see other builders doing. Because they can see, over time, what they’re achieving, the successes they’re creating and step by step, they’re making massive progress in their businesses and lives.
Amelia : These wins you celebrate don’t need to be big. In fact, the University of Minnesota recently shared:
Our brains are wired to respond to rewards. Celebrating the completion of small accomplishments leads to the completion of larger goals. According to research from Harvard Business School, people who tracked their small achievements every day enhanced their motivation.
The simple practice of recording your progress helps you to appreciate your small wins which in turn boosts your sense of confidence. Why? Any accomplishment, no matter how small, releases the neurotransmitter dopamine which boosts your mood, motivation, and attention. It also signals you to keep doing the activity again and again.
Duayne : I’ve personally found that the more I celebrate my wins, and share those wins with my team and those around me, the more it keeps me motivated and in a positive mindset.
This helps me keep learning and improving, and finding the positive in everything. It also means that I’m in a better place to identify the challenges I’m experiencing, and have clarity about what I need to do to tackle them. And it’s helped me get in a better position to set my goals, reviewing what works and what doesn’t, and putting action steps in place to achieve the things I want for my business and life.
Amelia : Your win doesn’t have to be big or dramatic. Like the research says, “Celebrating the small accomplishments leads to the completion of larger goals.” So what can you celebrate today?
Perhaps it’s that you’ve been doing this Winning Week Challenge, and learning new ways you can support yourself in your business, and in your health and well-being. That’s a great win.
Duayne : Perhaps it's that you finished something on a project, your team is working well, you had an early day or even that you got the weekend off.
Perhaps it’s that you’re looking for ways to learn and improve, and to do things differently, so you can have better results in your projects, business and life.
Whatever your win is, it doesn’t matter how big or small … take a moment to celebrate it. Share it with someone else. Give yourself a pat on the back, and acknowledge what you’ve achieved.
Amelia : And that’s it! Like we said, it’s an easy one today. But perhaps, if you’re not used to celebrating your wins, and reviewing what’s worked and what hasn’t, then this may feel new and different. Don’t let that stop you! We know this will be great when you put it into practice each week.
