Amelia : Hello! By now you know that I’m Amelia.
Duayne : And I’m Duayne.
We want to say a huge congratulations to you for making your way through our Winning Week Challenge.
I know from personal experience how challenging it can be to embrace new things, and to take a good look at where you need to improve. I also know though, that when you decide you want to take ownership of your actions and make better decisions, it’s the start of really changing things up, and improving your projects, business and life.
So, good on you. If you’re here, you’ve taken a massive step in the right direction.
Amelia : Now you’ve been through the Winning Week Challenge, you’ve seen the actions you can take on a daily basis. And going forward, we’d love to see you include these in your working week, so you can make each and every week a Winning Week.
So, to wrap up our Winning Week Challenge, we want to share something with you we call our “Sunday Session”.
This is not a drinking session at the pub! This is a great way to set up your week’s schedule, and there’s no reason you couldn’t do it whilst enjoying a bevy if you want to though!
Duayne : As a builder, one of the things I always used to struggle with is how much of my time felt like it belonged to everyone else. I was always reacting. Having to jump from project to project, problem to problem, and wasting huge amounts of time and energy as I raced all over the place dealing with things as they kept coming up.
I felt others always dictated to me what I did with my time and how I spent it. And it meant I never felt in control of my time.
The biggest change I made to turn things around, was I started scheduling my weeks. And it all starts with a Sunday Session.
Amelia : We have builder members who will do this on a Friday afternoon, or do this two weeks in advance - it’s really up to you how you choose to do it. The key is that it gets DONE. That you embrace this idea of scheduling and planning your time and your week. Because that’s what makes the difference in getting back control of your time, and stopping others dictating to you what you do.
Duayne : This only needs to take 15 or so minutes. Sit down with your diary. Look at what you have coming up in the week ahead. And start scheduling things in. This will help you start the week far better prepared, and able to be proactive rather than reactive with what's going on in your calendar.
Amelia : The 6P Methodology we mentioned back at Day 1 can be a great framework for how you do your Sunday Session.
It starts with PERSONAL. Look at the exercise you want to do, and if you have a partner or family, what’s happening that you need to factor into your week’s planning.
Then go onto PROJECTS. Review what’s happening on site, with orders, deliveries,
Duayne : You can move through each of our P’s like this, and review what needs to happen in the upcoming week:
- PEOPLE, or your team and suppliers and subbies
- PARTNERSHIPS with the clients, designers and other consultants you’re working with.
- PROCESSES, and how systems you want to put into place or improve. Remember the Contract processes we went through on Day 3 of your Winning Week.
- And PROFESSIONAL, where you can review your cash-flow, profitability and the work you know you need to do ON your business, rather than IN your business.
Amelia : Before you know it, you’ll have a scheduled week and a really clear picture of where you need to spend your time, effort and energy.
Duayne : This will help you avoid getting derailed. Keep doing this, and you’ll feel more and more in control of your time - even when there’s challenging times in our industry.
Amelia : Check the notes below where we share an easy win for you for your Sunday Session, and ways you can next level this day of the Winning Week Challenge.
And don’t forget to download our Winning Week worksheet. You can print a clean version of this every week to help you remember this Winning Week Challenge, and then how you can shape your daily activities to improve your projects, business and life overall.
Duayne : We really do want you to get the help and support you need to have a better business and lifestyle, and to thrive and succeed as a builder.
So you can avoid the expensive mistakes and stressful challenges that so many builders experience, and instead wake up each day knowing you’re doing something you enjoy.
